On Apr. 8, 2026, the film “The Art of Social Justice” received a nomination from the Southeast Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. The film documented Kacie Lauders’ work during her tenure in the 2024-2025 Emory Arts and Social Justice fellowship cohort.

The program brings artists and professors together to construct curricula that combine their educational and creative backgrounds to teach students how to identify and confront social injustices through art.

Lauders’ curriculum aimed to address how artificial intelligence influences human and civil rights. Through her experiences as a podcast producer, arts administrator, and more, Lauders was able to shape conversations with students and analyze data to envision the areas AI could impact other creatives and everyday people.

Lauders’ collaborators included Emory music professor Adam Mirza, who explored AI through electronic music, and Spelman dance professor T. Lang, who explored AI through the movement of black and brown bodies. The result was a midterm performance that featured a soundscape bed made by Lauders for the Emory improvisational musicians to improvise over, accompanied by dancers.

The Southeast Emmy ceremony will take place in Atlanta on Saturday, May 16, where “The Art of Social Justice” is nominated in the Arts / Entertainment - Long Form Content category.
